BASIC OBEDIENCE CLASS
This is an eight-week course for older puppies (12 weeks and older) and dogs (adult) without previous training. It is especially appropriate for puppies that have had socialization classes such as those held in vet clinics or any dog that has had less than eight weeks of previous training. The KCKC Basic class teaches you the principles of positive reinforcement training. You apply these principles while teaching your dog controlled walking in the presence of other dogs and distractions as well as sit, down, come and stay. You and your dog will learn how to integrate these new skills into your day-to-day living such as greeting guests into your home or meeting dogs/people on your outings. Problem behaviors will be addressed as needed. A certificate of completion (and a treat for your dog) will be earned at the end of this class. This class also teaches the skills needed for dogs less than one year of age to meet the requirements for AKC's S.T.A.R. Puppy program.
INTERMEDIATE OBEDIENCE CLASS
Prerequisite: Basic Obedience Class or equivalent
This is an eight-week course that will strengthen and expand the behaviors learned in the Basic Training class. Teamwork between you and your dog will be emphasized as well as learning to deal with distractions on or off-leash. Many dog handler teams stay in this class for more than one eight week session. Upon successful completion of this class, your dog should be able to earn AKC's Canine Good Citizen title.
ADVANCED OBEDIENCE CLASS
Prerequisite: Intermediate Obedience Class or equivalent
The KCKC Advanced class will help you to be ready for whatever is your next adventure. Do you aspire to be a therapy dog team? Are you interested in some obedience or Rally competition? Do you just need to try something different to sharpen all those skills you've learned already? This is your window to many adventures with your dog.
SCENT WORK CLASS
This class preps you and your dog for entering Scent Work competition and is open to both purebred and mix breed dogs. It can be especially helpful to those dogs needing more confidence, senior dogs looking for something to keep their minds busy, and young dogs needing to expend their energy. This sport can also be ideal for dogs with disabilities since they are allowed to compete as long as they can do so safely.
