Becoming A Member

Membership to the Key City Kennel Club is open to all persons who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this club.

THE PROCESS

The first thing to do is come to an event or meeting. We meet the third Tuesday of each month.  The location is usually the Training Center but watch the website for announcements as the location does change from time to time.

Once you get to know us and we get to know you, the next step is to fill out an application.  Applications are available at club meetings, as a download in the left box here and at the training center.  You can fill out the application online also and bring it with you to the meeting.  Your application must be signed by two members who agree to sponsor you.  These can be members you have meet at an event or meeting.  It could also be a breeder member that you received your dog from.

Now that your application is complete you can mail it together with payment for the current year's dues to the KCKC Secretary or bring it to the next club meeting.

Once we have your application it is read at the first meeting of the club following receipt.  At the next meeting, the application is entered for the second reading. The application is then voted on by secret written ballot.  With Affirmative votes of three-fourths of the membership present and voting at the meeting you become a member.

Interested in joining KCKC?  You can fill out an application here.  The form will be emailed to you, bring this form to the next meeting.

If you don't have sponsors you can meet people there.

About Us

The Key City Kennel Club began out of obedience classes taught by Holly Sue Erwin and Pat Johnson.  They found a group of people in this area who were interested in starting a kennel club.  Holly Sue Erwin and Pat Johnson put on a fun match.  Out of the fun match, came the first organizational meeting with twenty people attending.  Of those twenty, two were officers in the Albert Lea Kennel Club.  Harold McMillen was selected the first chairman.  McMillen selected Vern Nere, John Bolton, and Pat Johnson to draw up the by-laws.  At first, the name of the club was the Mankato K-9 Club.  This first official meeting with the election of officers was held in April, 1967.  The first president of the club was John Bolton.  John Bolton, already a successful exhibitor, breeder, and president of the Italian Greyhound Club of America, provided much-needed experience and direction for the new club.  The new club had its first fun match in the fall of 1967.
